U.S. Drug Laws are nothing but a waste of taxpayer money.

Our prisons are holding more prisoners than the actual capacity they were designed for, we spend billions of dollars on the so called "War" on Drugs, about 13% of adult black males are not eligible to vote because they have been incarcerated due to drug offenses, and tax payers will have to pay on average $300 more each year in order to be able to support the high number of people our prisons will be holding.
While all this is going on, Drug Cartels are still able to meet the American drug consumers' demands and more and more illicit drugs are brought into the United States each year. Our government, that in Regan's time declared the War on Drugs, continues to fund a battle that we have been slowly losing since the beginning. Our laws have done nothing but saturate prisons with addicts that have been forced to commit crime in order to satisfy their addiction, therefore increasing the prices of the drugs and making the illicit drug business very profitable. Considering that our laws disregard the human nature of the problem, ignoring the fact that demand is if not constant, gradually increasing.
It could be argued that by legalizing drugs, our society would head towards a path of social destruction, but even though an increase in drug use is possible, all we are doing is slowing down something apparently inevitable.
